  • March 28. Linda Hall Library Panel Discussion. Reminiscences of the Apollo era, Apollo 17, geology of the Moon, collecting rock samples, the future return to the Moon, opening of an Apollo 17 core sample tube preserved unopened since its return in 1971. The panel consisted of Harrison H. Schmitt, Gerry D. Griffin, and Clive R. Neal moderated by Andy Chaikin. More details and a video link can be found here.

  • December 19. The weekly Graduate Seminar Series for the 2018 Fall term (September – December) on “The Origin and Evolution of the Moon”, sponsored by the NASA Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI), held its final lecture, “Future Exploration of the Moon: The Road Ahead”, delivered by Apollo 17 Astronaut Harrison H. Schmitt. It was streamed live by Adobe Connect and is archived at this link. It lasts 1 hr 46 min. Senator Schmitt summarized the development of the Apollo program, and updated some of the lunar geological results contributed by this endeavor with the latest findings. A brief Q&A session followed, and the lecture concluded with a discussion of the steps that Dr. Schmitt recommends for a successful return to the Moon and exploration of Mars.
